SD (short for Secure Digital) are currently available in 2 variants, SDHC and SDXC.

They are most popular in digital cameras, but also seen in SatNavs and Laptops.

SDHC has a range of capacity from 4GB to 32GB.

SDXC ranges from 64GB and larger.

SD which went up to 2GB are no longer available.

SDHC cards will work in SDHC and SDXC devices.

SDXC will only work in SDXC devices. This is important - check for the SDXC logo on your device, or look in the user manual before buying an SDXC card. If your device is not SDXC compliant the card and device will malfunction.

Different performance speeds are available as well as different capacities. A high specification camera capable of shooting very high resolution video will require a high performance SD card.

If you intended to use an SD card for additional storage in a laptop for example, a low performance version will suffice.

Here are some videos from Delkin highlighting the differences between Class 10, UHS-I [1], UHS-I [3].
