CFast 2.0

CFast is a variant of Compact Flash (CF), a little thicker by 0.3mm. It uses the Serial ATA bus rather than the Parallel ATA/IDE bus for which Compact Flash is based upon. SATA supports transfer rates up to 600 MByte/s while Parallel ATA/IDE is limited to 167 MByte/s even using UDMA 7.

CFast cards supporting the CFast 1.1 specification are based on the Serial ATA Gen II interface (SATA-II) and support bus speeds up to 300MB/s.

The latest CFast 2.0 specification released at the end of 2012 with bus speeds up to 600MB/s are intended for both industrial and professional imaging and video markets

You can’t use a CFast (or CompactFast) card in a CF (or CompactFlash) slot.

CFast cards are electrically compatible with SATA-IO compliant products but have their own connectors created by the Compact Flash Association.
